We are extremely pleased to announce the addition of three new staff members, and the change of position for one of our current FCA team members.
Josiah Marr is a graduate of UNB's Bachelor of Education program and has earned his Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (CTESL). His areas of expertise in teaching are: English as a Second Language, Health and Physical Education, as well as Biology and General Science. He has experience as the program coordinator and cabin leader at Camp Wildwood, as well as missions experience in Bolivia, Bangladesh, and Nepal. He recently returned from teaching at the International School of Beijing in China. Josiah is also getting married this summer. He says, “I am thrilled to be a part of the FCA team. I have a passion for sharing the love of Jesus with young people especially in the form of sport and physical activity and I really look forward to what this school year holds.”
Samantha has a Bachelor Degree of Science in Kinesiology and a Bachelor Degree of Education from the University of New Brunswick and and has been supply teaching for the past 2 years. She has also been working during this time at a treatment centre for complex-case youth. Her interests include athletics, musical pursuits, as well as painting. Samantha will be joining our elementary team in the Grade 1/2 classroom, and will be involved in the enrichment blocks. She says, “I am very excited to work in the elementary classroom and bring the energy and excitement to learning that our youth crave. I am also looking forward to working with a great team of educators in this well-grounded institution".
DPCS alumni Brandon (2005) is a graduate of UNB's Bachelor of Education program. Brandon worked in Anglophone West supply teaching before he and his wife Emily moved to Australia where Emily just completed her degree at HILC (Hillsong International Leadership College). While there, Brandon among other things worked as a kids ministry leader at Hillsong church. Aside from working with teens and children Brandon’s passions include coaching sports, and woodworking. Brandon will be teaching high school math, physical education, as well as overseeing the athletic department as athletic director. He says, “I could not be more excited about the upcoming year. I believe that I am exactly where I am meant to be, and that God has been preparing me for this career in ways I never would have imagined. Life's challenges and God's grace have made me a different person than I was when I graduated ten years ago. My hope and prayer is that I can challenge my students and extend God's grace to them in order to help them grow as well.”
FCA’s own Mrs. Sarah will be stepping into the Kindergarten role this fall. Sarah brings a wealth of experience as she has spent three years teaching Kindergarten in the public school system and the past ten years implementing and teaching the New Brunswick preschool program. Sarah is also a facilitator for the Professional Learning Program which is mandatory for all New Brunswick Early Childhood Educators and has had the opportunity to travel and attend seminars with renowned Early Childhood educators Deb Curtis and Margie Carter. Sarah received her Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University, her Bachelor of Education with a major in Early Childhood Educators from the University of New Brunswick, and her certificate in special education from Nova Scotia’s Teacher’s College. She says,“I started my career in Kindergarten, and my transition is made so much easier knowing that there will be a strong staff guiding this year's preschool children. My passion has always been teaching young children. I am so excited to take this opportunity to teach Kindergarten.”
